Rubel Hossain has been retained as a reserve player in the Bangladesh squad

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has confirmed the return of one of their two World Cup squad backers – Animul Islam. Fast bowler Rubel Hossain, who was also named reserve in the squad, has been retained.

“Biplob (Aminul) is returning,” national selector Habibul Bashar told reporters on Saturday. “We have kept Rubel as part of the precaution as a couple of speed bowlers carry quite a bit,” he said.

The duo was included as a stand-up for the camp but due to the regulators’ injury concern, the team management decided to keep Rubel back with the team as an additional member of the squad.

Rubel will be with us for the whole event as a Reserve Player. In case of any player disregard, Rubel will join as a player of Reserve status and the rule is not new as this is practically the 2017 Champions Trophy, ” said Rabeed Imam, BCB’s senior media and communications manager , told Cricbuzz on Saturdays.

Bangladesh are heading to Abu Dhabi, UAE on Sunday to play two warm-up games against Sri Lanka and Ireland before returning to Oman on October 15 for World Cup Round 1. Mahmudullah has a sore back, so he is unlikely to appear in the first warm-up match against Sri Lanka on October 12.
