New Delhi, Dec 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the new parliament building will be a symbol of a modern, self-sufficient India. He said it would stand as a solid testament to the cultural heritage of India and the aspirations of Navbharata. He laid the foundation stone for the new parliament building in the national capital, Delhi, on Thursday. Leaders of various political parties, cabinet ministers and ambassadors of various countries attended the event. The construction of the new Parliament building is significant in the ambitious Central Vista project being undertaken by the Center at a cost of about Rs 20,000 crore. The government aims to complete its construction by 2022, when the country celebrates its 75th Independence Day. Scholars from Sringeri Math in Karnataka conducted the Bhumi Puja. Interfaith prayers followed. Special pujas were also conducted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi, Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh. Prime Minister Modi has said that laying the foundation stone for the new Parliament House is a great milestone in the history of Indian democracy. He called on everyone to respond to the concept of ‘India First’. He recalled when he first entered Parliament in 2014. On the other hand, the Congress has heaped criticism on Prime Minister Modi. Sringeri Vedic scholars for Bhumi Puja Bangalore: Bhumi Puja was held at the hands of Vedic scholars at Sringeri Sharda Peetha in Karnataka for the construction of the new Parliament building. Shri Vidushekhara Bharti Swamiji performed poojas. Six scholars participated in the circumcision. At first Guru Puja, Ganapati Puja, Punyahavachanam, Adikesha Puja, Anantha Puja, Varaha and Bhuvaneshwari Pujas were performed. Saradapith sent Sham Kham and Navaratna Peetha for Bhoomi Puja.
