Mumbai: The Shiv Sena has announced that it would be happy if Sharad Pawar is appointed as the UPA chairman. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Routh said that the Congress party was very weak in the country and hence all the opposition parties should come together. “I am happy that Sharad Pawar has taken over as UPA chairman. However, I heard that Pawar was not ready to accept this responsibility. We will only support this request if it becomes official. Right now Congress is very weak. The time has come for all the opposition parties to unite to strengthen the UPA, ”said Sanjay Routh. Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Maratha leader Sharad Pawar is likely to be appointed chairman of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA). Credible sources said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who has been in office till now, will step down soon. Sources said that Sonia Gandhi had expressed her reluctance to continue in the post during a recent meeting with leaders amid farmers’ concerns.
