Cyberpunk 2077 sales have already exceeded its massive development and marketing costs

Yesterday we informed you that Cyberpunk 2077 surpassed one million concurrent players on Steam. And today, we have some additional details on the sales of the game. According to CD Projekt RED, the game’s pre-orders and day 1 sales have already exceeded its huge development and marketing costs. In other words, Cyberpunk 2077 is profitable in just one day.

As stated by CD Projekt RED regarding the day 1 sales of the game.

Cyberpunk 2077’s pre-order sales across all of its digital distribution channels have exceeded the sum of the following:

  • total game-related development expenses, and
  • The marketing and promotion costs of the game borne by the Company, either incurred or anticipated for the remainder of 2020. “

So yeah, the hype is real and Cyberpunk 2077 is selling like hotcakes.

In similar news, CD Projekt RED stated that Cyberpunk 2077 had surpassed 8 million pre-orders.

Of those 8 million pre-orders, more than half were for the PC version. Pre-orders for all consoles were 41%. This basically means that the PC has managed to outsell all consoles combined (at least when it comes to pre-orders).

Our PC performance review for Cyberpunk 2077 will go live this weekend. Until then, you can read our article “Ray Tracing and DLSS 2.0 Benchmarks”.
