Google will help combat misinformation about the COVID-19 vaccine

Google announced Thursday that it will add updated information about the COVID-19 vaccine to search results. And it will also help combat misinformation regarding the vaccine.

It will start with obtaining authoritative information, towards the top of the search. This is starting in the UK, the first country to administer the vaccine. Google will display a list of vaccines authorized in your location. It will also display information panels for each individual vaccine. So you can get the most up-to-date information about these vaccines. As more health authorities begin to authorize these vaccines, Google will begin to introduce this feature in more countries.

Google will also support quality information and vaccine reporting. Which means news sites that report on vaccines will also move to the top of the search. But not just any news site, the ones with quality reports. Which means sites like Brietbart probably won’t be at the top of the search.

These dashboards will also be added to YouTube, probably in any video that mentions COVID-19. Which, according to Google, has already been viewed over 400 billion times, which is pretty amazing.

Why is this important?

There is a lot of misinformation right now, about COVID-19 and now with the vaccines that are being approved. And since most people receive their news on the Internet, it is important that Google and other tech giants work to combat this misinformation so that they are protected from this virus.

Google has launched quite a few products since the pandemic began earlier this year. To help slow the curve, contact tracking and even provide accurate and up-to-date information on the virus. So that people can make the right decision about what to do. So this shouldn’t surprise anyone.
