In the pursuit of a stiff target, KKR found themselves in deep trouble as they fell to 31 for 5 inside five overs after a top order collapse with Chahar wrecking havoc with figures of 4 for 29 of his four overs .
Russell (54 off 22 balls) and Cummins (66 not out of 34 balls) raised hopes of an unlikely win for KKR but in the end they were all out for 202 in 19.1 overs.

Needing 190 runs from 15 overs, Russell first revived the KKR hunt with blistering 54 (3×4, 6×6) before being cleaned by Sam Curran.
But it wasn’t over for KKR so far. Batting at No. 8, Cummins, a KKR speed forward, showed some sentimental power hitting in his 34-ball 66 not out (4×4, 6×6) but simply didn’t have enough batting left to keep the show to go.
Cummins beat Curran for 30 runs with four sixes and one boundary in the 16th over to keep the run alive, even as they continued to lose wickets.

It was down to 20 runs with one wicket in hand in the last over. But Prasidh Krishna was ruled out in the first innings of the final over.
The win took CSK to the top of the table with six points from four games, while KKR slipped to sixth.
Chahar, who had wrecked havoc against the Punjab Kings the day before, was at his ominous best once again as he rocked the fight in favor of CSK to leave KKR towing 31 at 5 inside the powerplay.
Chahar, who grabbed 4/13 against Punjab Kings, made the ball talk with his swing and variation and grabbed the talented Shubman Gill for a golden duck and then had the form Nitish Rana (9) in second over.

But Chahar’s biggest wicket in the next game came over in the form of skipper Eoin Morgan (7) when the left-back player kicked a winger with MS Dhoni complete secure custody to become the first wicket keeper to complete 150 redundancies at IPL.
Looking for a change of fate in their first match at the Wankhede, KKR opted for bowling on a flat track but du Plessis blamed his way to master class 95 not out after his opening partner Ruturaj Gaikwad 64 hit as CSK posted 220 am 3.
First, Gaikwad returned to form after a series of poor outings in his first three games with a composed 42-ball beat that set him up for CSK after KKR picked a pitch.
Gaikwad played the role of striker, smashing four sixes and four boundaries, while his senior partner in South Africa du Plessis gave the youngster the backup as the duo produced CSK’s best start of the season with an opening stand of 115.
Du Plessis came on his own after Gaikwad left in the 13th over as he added 50 runs with Moeen Ali (25 off 12 balls) off just 26 balls.
CSK scored 76 runs in the last five overs with South Africa at best attacking in the last five overs.
He beat Andre Russell for three boundaries in a row and raced to 90s with six off Pat Cummins in the final over, beating him 60 balls which topped four sixes and nine fours.
CSK finished the run in style with Ravindra Jadeja hitting Cummins for six as Nitish Rana paved it over the midwicket boundary which rounded out KKR’s condition.
MS Dhoni promoted himself to No 4 and finally broke his jinx against Sunil Narine, hitting his first boundary after 64 balls against the mysterious spinner on his way to a 17 eight ball.
