Victorian starter Marcus Harris has been added to the Australia team for the first Test against India after a series of practice game injuries for Australian hitters, and the eventual failure of David Warner and Will Pucovski.

While Warner injured his adductor muscle on the field during the second ODI against India, Pucovski suffered a concussion while hitting for Australia A in the first game of the tour against India at Drummoyne Oval last week.

Harris, who has played nine Tests for Australia, earns a retirement on the back of a stellar career in recent Sheffield Shield games, which includes a 239 against South Australia.

“Given the spate of injuries in recent weeks, we are fortunate to be able to bring a player of Marcus’s caliber to the Test team,” said Australian coach Trevor Hohns. “Marcus has been in outstanding form for Victoria this season and has had the advantage of taking on the Indian bowlers in both matches of the three-day tour at Drummoyne and under the lights at SCG.

“At the same time, we are disappointed in David and Will that they will not be available for the first trial. We have taken a conservative approach to managing Will since he suffered the concussion and hope that he and David will regain full health. Boxing Day test “.

Harry Conway replaced after delayed concussion

Australia’s injury problems only deepened on Saturday (December 12) when, after Cameron Green, Harry Conway was also ruled out of the second match of the current tour due to a concussion. While Green was immediately substituted after deflecting a shot from Jasprit Bumrah to the head while bowling on Friday, Conway showed signs of a concussion later that day.

Conway reported no symptoms of a concussion when evaluated by medical personnel in the field at the time of impact. However, when he was retested at the end of Australia A’s innings, he reported symptoms, after which Mark Steketee was named his replacement for concussion for the final two days of the game.
