The United States already purchased 100,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine in July, securing the option to purchase an additional 300 million doses later. With the vaccination regimen that requires two doses per patient, the current total purchase is sufficient to cover 100 million citizens (the population of the United States is just over 320 million).

Supplies from this second batch are expected to be delivered in April, while 20 million doses from the first batch will arrive at the end of December; All shipments are subject to the vaccine obtaining an emergency use authorization from the US Drug Administration, according to the press release. The authorization is expected to be issued next week.
The company did not disclose the price of the contract, but according to US media, the government allocated $ 4.1 billion in total purchases of the Moderna vaccine.
Moderna’s vaccine candidate is underway with phase 3 clinical trials, involving an expanded group of participants of different ages and health conditions. On November 30, the company released the results of the main efficacy analysis of the vaccine indicating an efficacy of 94.1 percent.
