Mumbai: 500 teams will be deployed to administer the Covid-19 vaccine | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: At least 500 teams of five people trained each to administer the Covid-19 vaccine will be deployed in the city, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said on Friday.
The first to get vaccinated will be healthcare workers, followed by front-line workers, people over 50 and those with comorbidities, it said in a statement.
The announcement was made by additional municipal commissioner Suresh Kakani at the first meeting of the city’s working group for vaccine distribution at BMC headquarters on Friday, the statement said.
Last month, the government of Maharashtra formed a task force to manage the distribution and administration of the Covid-19 vaccine in the state. A city-level working group was also created.
Selected vaccine recipients will receive a message on their registered mobile numbers, said Kakani, who leads the working group.
The process of creating committees at the regional level to oversee vaccination will also be completed soon, he said.
As of Thursday, the number of Covid-19 cases in Mumbai was 2,88,689, which includes 10,948 deaths.
