Dhoni played a game of 17 off eight balls, striking two fours and sixes before Eoin Morgan grabbed a spectacular catch to cut his outing short. Gavaskar admitted he saw something special in Dhoni’s hill and believes the CSK captain will get the swamp shots to go as he progresses in the tournament.

Dhoni walked in on Moeen Ali’s wicket-kick. The England player has all scored 25 off 12 balls before going out hit off bowling Sunil Narine. With the likes of Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu paddled, Dhoni walked into batting at No. 4 and opened his account with Narine four off, the first boundary he hit off the spinner in any kind of cricket. The CSK captain took Prasidh Krishna for four and six to indicate his intent but a superb pitch from a KKR captain at the cover took a stunning catch to send Dhoni back.

Gavaskar feels this was the right move as he allowed Dhoni and CSK to gain momentum despite a wicket fall. “He picked up the situation very well. He realized he needed more than Rayudu, Raina or Jadeja to keep the momentum going. That’s what he did with that little cameo of pubs. He made sure CSK didn’t take their foot off the accelerator, ”he added.
