More than 2 million “top-up” Covid-19 vaccine booster injections have been delivered in three weeks, the UK health service announced on Saturday.
The National Health Service (NHS) said people in the high-risk categories had been quick to accept the offer of booster before winter, with a total of 2.08 million “supplements” administered to date.
Currently, around 4 million people in England are eligible for booster beyond their two Covid-19 vaccine injections – including health and care workers, those with primary health conditions and people aged 50 and over .
“It’s great to see that just three weeks into the booster campaign, more than 2 million people have been quick to get their back up security ahead of what will be a busy winter period for the NHS, ”said Ruth May, Chief Nursing Officer for NHS England.

“Thanks to the incredible efforts of NHS staff who have been vaccinating in mosques, sports grounds and community centers, those who are eligible and most at risk of coronavirus have been able to get their booster jab. I have received my booster shot before winter to protect myself and those around me – I would encourage others to do the same – it is fast, effective and provides very important protection against the virus, ” he said.
People who are eligible for booster booster are invited to their vaccine at least six months on from their second dose, according to independent expert advice.
Therefore, the number of people eligible changes daily as more people reach the six-month mark.
Millions of people have already been invited by text, email and letter encouraging them to order through the national ordering service.
The NHS began the consolidation program on September 16 and has sent more than 4 million invitations to those eligible.
More than 80 million vaccines have been provided, and well over four in five adults have received both doses since the NHS in England introduced the first Oxford / AstraZeneca vaccine Covid-19 vaccine dose on December 8 , 2020.
In accordance with the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI) guidelines, eligible persons will receive either one dose of the Pfizer / BioNTech or half a dose of the Moderna vaccine as a booster shot. PTI AK RUP
